Key switch operates the famous Elbphilharmonie

Two and a half minutes

this is how long it takes to use this 83 metre long escalator - the socalled Tube  - which transports visitors of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg up to the 37 metre high plaza. According to the Finnish company KONE, this two-lane, convex-shaped escalator is “the longest escalator in Western Europe and worldwide the only one curved this way”.

Whether the Tube is moving or not may only be decided by authorized employees who have the key to the Kraus & Naimer control switch (including a key locking device) at the bottom of the escalator. This helps to make sure that the Tube is not accidently switched on during repair work. As you can see, maximum safety is provided!

in 2022, the Elbphilharmonie celebrates its 5th anniversary - a reason to proudly look into the future! Despite its relatively short existence, the Elbphilharmonie has already exceeded all expectations. The quality, density and variety of the program are all impressive. The spectacular building with its unique location between the harbor and the city centre is a real magnet for visitors.

The viewing platform ‘Plaza’ on the 8th floor with its 360-degree view will celebrate its 15 millionth visitor in March 2022 - obviously only after a spectacular ride on the Tube.
