Add switching positions To add switching positions click on this button . A red line appears, which follows the mouse pointer.
Move the mouse to the location where a new switching position shall be inserted. Now click the mouse button and a dialog appears. Please read the remark about text length.
In this dialog you can enter text for the new switching position. Close the dialog by clicking on 'continue'.Alternatively, you can also use one of the buttons below the text field. This buttons create symbols like a star or delta. Switching positions can be removed by using . can be used the change the text of existing switching positions. |

Place first switching position ![]() The first switching position is indicated by an orange triangle in the escutcheon plate field. This triangle can be moved by drag and drop. (Click on the triangle but keep button pressed. Move mouse to desired position. Release button) |

Add contacts To add new contacts just double-click on this button . If you need to insert a contact at a specific position click only once.

How to define closed contact positions ![]() Closed contact positions are indicated by dark squares in the contact development field. Just click on a square to toggle its state. |

Add connections between terminals (jumpers) ![]() Direct connections between terminals (which can be either inside the switch body or outside) are called jumpers in X-Plan. To add such a connection click on the button and a terminal becomes red. The red marking follows the mouse.
Select a terminal by clicking, then move the mouse to the terminal which should be connected and click again.Jumpers can be deleted by using . Unlike adding you have to click on the horizontal line in this case. |

How to define connections to other devices in the wiring diagram (external connections) For a better understanding, it helps to define this connections (called external connections in X-Plan) to other devices in the wiring diagram. This very important information will be shown on the verified contact development offered by Kraus & Naimer, afterwards. Additionally they are required if the switch has quick connects or similar. To add or modify click on the button and a terminal becomes red.
The red marking follows the mouse. Move the mouse to the desired terminal and click left. A dialog opens. Here you can enter a short text (max. 4 digits).
Click 'continue' to close the dialog. A vertical line appears at this terminal showing the entered text. |

Get the switch description code - ![]() To create the switch description code simply click on the large button. The code is now shown in the topmost text field. Select the complete text with the mouse and press Ctrl+C. Please paste the text into an e-mail and send it, along with electrical and mounting specifications, to a Kraus & Naimer sales office. For Apple users with IE 5.x only: The large button does not appear on your system. Please use the small button which opens a dialog that acts in the same way. These buttons are not available in Design Wizard. Use the 'Continue'-button instead. |

Load an existing switch description code - ![]() To show the switch that hides behind a switch description code, please copy/paste (Ctrl+C/V) the text into the topmost (and empty) text field. Afterwards click on the large button. The code will be loaded into X-Plan. If a problem occurs during the import procedure, an error message will be shown in the remarks field. Eventually, you have to scroll down. (Various java implementations prohibit using a pop-up message at this point). For Apple users with IE 5.x only: The large button does not appear on your system. Please use the small button which opens a dialog that acts in the same way. These buttons are not available in Design Wizard. Import is done automatically. |

Rectangular part of the escutcheon plate - ![]() Text for the rectangular part of the escutcheon plate can be entered and modified by clicking on this area. A dialog opens where you can enter or modify the text. No text in the rectangular part means that the switch requires a square escutcheon plate. |

Preclosing contacts ![]() From time to time it is necessary that some contacts close before others, but don't require an additional latched position. The so-called pre-closing or early make contacts have to be specially marked in X-Plan. For Example: According to IEC/EN 60947-1 the switched neutral shall break not before and shall make not after the other poles. For safety reasons we recommend to indicate the switched neutral as pre-closing contact. Furthermore, it is also possible with this option to indicate a late opening or late break contact, as well as overlapping or make before break contacts. To specify a pre-closing or late opening contact, click on the button . Move the mouse to the corresponding dark square in the contact development field.
Place the mouse on top or bottom of the square. A red bar appears which indicates the pre-closing or late opening. Click to confirm.

Printing - ![]() To print just use this button. If this button is disabled , your browsers Java plug-in needs to be updated to version 1.2 or newer.
In this case either use the print function of your browser or update the Java plug-in. |

Remarks field This field should be used to store switch relevant information. These remarks will be included into the switch description code. |

Current tracking ![]() The software X-Plan can offer you a very helpful advantage. To use this feature, you can assign a color to an external connection when adding or modifying it. As long as external connections are defined and colors are assigned, X-Plan shows, according to the current switching position, which terminals are connected, by colored dots. This can help you to avoid short circuits or wrong developments. The red auxiliary line over the contact development field indicates the current switching position. You are easily able to change this by clicking on a different switching position. On most systems it is also possible to use the cursor keys. |

Spring return (momentary) switching positions In case you need a spring return switching position, please click on this button . A red box appears which is following
the mouse. Move the mouse to the switching position which should be spring return automatically and click.To remove the spring return repeat the same. If you require a spring return over more positions, please make a note in the remarks field. |

Switches with 360° rotation - ![]() When the number of used switching positions allow for 360° rotation this button is enabled. If you want the switch to rotate 360° without stops, click the button. The button remains pressed until you click on it again. As long as the button is pressed, the indicators of the first and last switching position in the escutcheon plate field change from triangles to plain lines. If you do not click the button, the switch will have a stop after the last position. |
